Bio

Maryfran Johnson is Editor in Chief of IDG’s CIO Events division and an adjunct analyst with IT Executive Programs at International Data Corp. An award-winning journalist, Maryfran was named Editor in Chief of CIO magazine & Events in January 2009, where she served a unique dual role combining strategic direction of the publication with all editorial content for an extensive portfolio of national and regional CIO events.

After CIO closed its print magazine in November 2015, Maryfran remained Editor in Chief of CIO Events. Along with agenda development and speaker recruitment, she serves as the conference moderator for the annual CIO 100 Symposium and 9 regional CIO Perspectives events.

Maryfran brings more than 30 years of experience covering IT leadership, technology and business trends to her role, along with an extensive network of CIO contacts built during previous leadership positions as Editor in Chief of IDG’s Computerworld and Founding Editor of CIO Decisions magazine. She is a member of the Babson College Information Technology Divisional Advisory Board, and specializes in writing about CIO issues in leadership, business strategy, innovation and digital transformation.

Maryfran holds an M.A. in Journalism from The Ohio State University, where she was a Kiplinger Fellow, and a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Florida. She spent 10 years as a reporter at daily newspapers in Florida, Washington State and Ohio before joining the technology industry press in 1989.
